Mark Anthony - Facts and Information

Personal life

Mark Anthony was born in New York to a Puerto Rican family. His mother, Guilhermina, was a housewife, and his father, Philip Muniz, was a musician and a diner at the hospital. Mark Anthony is named after Marco Antonio Muniz, a Mexican singer popular in Puerto Rico. He has a sister named Yolanda Muniz.

Anthony has a daughter, Arianna, born in 1994 to his ex-girlfriend Debbie Rosado, who was a NYPD officer.

Mark Anthony married former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres on May 9, 2000 in Las Vegas. From this marriage he has two sons: Christian Anthony Muniz and Ryan Anthony Muniz (born August 16, 2003). It was a shaky marriage and they divorced in the summer of 2002. But they soon got back together and reaffirmed their vows in a beautiful and impressive ceremony in Puerto Rico in December 2002. But in October 2003, the couple finally broke up. Torres began her divorce proceedings in 2004.

In 2003, a waitress from Miami through the court demanded from Anthony to acknowledge paternity over her child. But a DNA test in August 2004 does not confirm her words.

While his divorce proceedings continued, Mark Anthony began dating actress and singer Jennifer Lopez, his longtime friend and colleague. They met briefly in the late 90s, before he entered into his first marriage, and she – in the second. Lopez and Anthony recorded their duet song together in early 2004 for Lopez’s next film, Let’s Dance. The couple had a quiet family wedding on June 5, 2004, less than a week after his divorce from Torres was finally finalized. On the morning of the wedding day, however, a media alert was sent out and they were gathered in the backyard, where they were taken by helicopter. Reporters said Lopez was pregnant, but this has not been proven.

Mark and Jennifer’s guests were invited to an “afternoon party” at Lopez’s house and were not warned that they were actually attending her wedding. The couple decided not to advertise their marriage too early, allowing themselves a little privacy. Sometime after the wedding, Mark Anthony declined to comment on their wedding during various interviews for the promotion of his Amar Sin Mentiras (Love Without Lies) album, which would later earn him a Grammy. In February 2005, Lopez confirmed the wedding and added that “Everyone knew! It’s not a secret”. A few months later, Anthony’s daughter, Arianna, appears at the beginning and end of her stepmother’s new video, Jennifer, as her younger sister. Everything about his wedding and family is kept secret from the media by Mark Anthony, which forces Lopez to keep his distance from journalists.

On November 8, 2007, at a concert in Miami, Mark and Jennifer admitted that they were expecting their first child together. On February 22, 2008, twins were born to the couple at a Long Island hospital. The girl was born at 00:12 at night, and then at 00:23 a boy was born.

On July 15, 2011, in a joint statement, Anthony and Lopez announced their divorce. “This decision was very difficult for us. We have come to a mutually beneficial agreement on all issues, ”the statement reads.
In early 2012, Mark dated Venezuelan model Shannon De Lima, but after about 10 months, he announced that he had broken up with her. Then he had a relationship with a 19-year-old girl from Russia, who was with him for only 2 months and about whom no one knows the details. But Mark gave interviews to the local press and there he said that his mysterious girlfriend was called Amina, and that he fell in love with her as a teenager and now he cannot forget her. Since February 2013, Mark Anthony has been dating the daughter of British billionaire Chloe Green.

On November 11, 2014, Mark Anthony married Shannon De Lima. The couple divorced in November 2016.

Early career

Anthony began his career as a vocalist in Freestyle (rap) music and House scenes in underground New York. After changing his name to avoid confusion with his namesake, Anthony began working as a composer and backing vocalist for Menudo and Latin Racals. His first album, “Rebel”, was a freestyle album and was recorded in 1988 on Bluedog Records. That same year he wrote and produced Boy I’ve Been Told for fellow freestyle musician Sa-Fire. Then in 1989 he sang backing vocals for Anne-Marie, another freestyle music partner, for the club hit “With or Without You”. A year later, in 1990, together with Little Louis Vega and Todd Terry, Mark wrote and sang a duet with freestyle singer Chrissy Isa’s song “You Should Know By Now”. In 1991 he was the backing vocalist for freestyle singer Edmond on the song “Come Back To Me”. In 1992, Mark began collaborating with his other producer Little Louis Vega and began working on the hit albums Ride On The Rhythm and When The Night Is Over.

Singer and Actor Careers

After 1992, Mark Anthony changed his style from freestyle music to Salsa and other Latin American music.

Absorbed in the music of Tito Puente, Ruben Bludes and Juan Gabriel, Marc Anthony released his debut album “Otra nota” in 1993 with the hit “Hasta que te conoci” (“Until I Met You”) – this is the famous song of the Mexican singer Juan Gabriela. Mark also sang the songs Si Tú No Te Fueras, El Último Beso and Palabras Del Alma at the Radio y Musica Convention. Despite the fact that the album was predominantly in Spanish, it still contained one English-language song “Make It With You”. A subsequent tour across America made Anthony one of the hottest new salsa stars ever. In 1994 he recorded the song “Vivir Lo Nuestro” on the album “Dicen Que Soy” by the singer La India.

His 1995 album, Todo a su tiempo, was nominated for a Grammy with songs “Te Conozco Bien”, “Hasta Ayer”, “Nadie Como Ella”, “Se Me Sigue Olvidando”, “Te Amaré” and “Llegaste A Mí”. This was followed by the more traditional-sounding album Contra la corriente, which became recognizable due to the concert in Madison Square Garden and in 1999 won a Grammy in the category “Best Tropical Latin Performance”. The album featured songs such as “Y Hubo Alguien”, “Contra La Corriente”, “No Me Conoces”, “Me Voy A Regalar” and “No Sabes Como Duele”. Anthony also appears in Paul Simon’s 1998 musical “The Capeman”. Anthony subsequently recorded the song “No Me Ames” in a duet with Jennifer Lopez for her album On the 6.
In 1998, together with Tina Arena, he recorded the song I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You, which became the main theme of the film “The Mask of Zorro”.

In 1999, trying to replicate the multi-genre success of Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin among English-speaking listeners, Anthony released his first album in English, calling it after his name Marc Anthony, and the song “I Need to Know” was rated “Top 5 “In the USA and its Spanish version” Dímelo “. There were also hits like “When I Dream At Night” and “My Baby You”. And the song “You Sang To Me” sounded in the movie “Runaway Bride”. His style change was a success, but at the same time alienated him from his fans in salsa music, despite the fact that the album featured a salsa-style song “Da La Vuelta” that became a hit and did not have an English version. And the song “That’s Okay” was also more salsa than pop. In 2001 he released another salsa album, “Libre”, which was awarded gold thanks to songs such as “Celos”, “Este Loco Que Te Mira”, and “Viviendo”. The song “Barco A La Deriva” is another hit from the album “Libre”, but it was previously featured by Venezuelan singer and actor Guillermo Davila. A year after that, he recorded another English-language album, Mended, which included hugely successful hits such as I’ve Got You, the Spanish version of which was called Te Tengo Aquí and I Need You, the Spanish version which was written by the Mexican singer Thalia. The list also included the songs “Tragedy”, “Love Won’t Get Any Better” and “She Mends Me”. Like his other album, “Marc Anthony”, this album also received both positive and negative reviews, but still the latter was less than last time.

Anthony has also appeared in several films, including the cult 1995 film Hackers, in 1996 in Big Night, in 1999 in Martin Scorsese’s Raising the Dead and in 2004 in Tony Scott’s Wrath “.

In June 2004, he released the album Amar Sin Mentiras. In July 2004, he translated the songs on this album into salsa style and released them on another album, Valió La Pena, and also included the traditional “Lamento Boricano” written by Rafael Hernandez. Notable songs on Amar Sin Mentiras include Ahora Quien, Escapémonos with Jennifer Lopez, Valió La Pena, Se Esfuma Tu Amor and Tu Amor Me Hace Bien. At the 2005 Latin Grammy Awards, his song “Amar Sin Mentiras” won a prize in the category “Latin Pop Album of The Year”, and his album Valió La Pena won a prize in the category “Best Tropical Album of The Year.

On July 11, 2006, Mark Anthony released the album Sigo Siendo Yo, which contained all of his greatest hits in Spanish.

Then, Mark Anthony played the role of Hector Laveau in the movie “The Singer” along with his wife Jennifer Lopez, who, in turn, played the role of Laveau’s wife. The film premiered in September 2006
